On Prophecy
Prophecy 101
What is it?
The gift of prophecy is the ability to speak the will of God into the lives of others. It has the purpose of bringing edification, exhortation, and encouragement to the Body of Christ, either individually or as a corporate body through knowledge of God’s Will
1 Corinthians 14:3 (KJV) But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.
Who is a Prophet?
Now it is important to understand that there is a difference between the Gift of Prophecy and the Office of a Prophet, one is a Gift of the Spirit and the other is a specific ministry office given to the body of Christ.
Ephesians 4:11 tells us that there are 5 ministry offices each one with a purpose and anointing on that office, they are;
1. Apostle,
2. Prophet,
3. Evangelist,
4. Pastors, and
5. Teachers.
Respectively there are 9 Gifts of the Holy Spirit they are;
1. Word of Wisdom,
2. Word of Knowledge,
3. Faith,
4. The Gift of Healing,
5. The Working of Miracles,
6. Prophecy,
7. Discerning of Spirits,
8. Divers Type of Tongues and
9. Interpretation of Tongues.
Just because a person has the gift of prophecy does not mean that person walks in the office of a prophet, Because God can and will use anyone to express His will toward the Body of Christ we can not assume that just because someone prophesize does not mean he or she is a prophet. This confusion my lead us to honor a person because of an office for which they do not hold. Also pride may lead even a man of God to assume he is greater than he is operating in an office for which he has no anointing.
1 Corinthians 14:31 (KJV) For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
When Paul speaks of the offices of the ministry he makes clear that Apostle, Prophets, Evangelist, Pastor and Teachers are separate and distinct offices. A person may have the ability to teach, and evangelize and even be given to prophecy, but can only walk in the office of that which his has the anointing to walk in. Just because a prophet can preach does not make him or her pastor. A prophet is called to prophesize, a teacher is to teach, and likewise an evangelist is to evangelize. If a person decides to walk in the office of pastor as well as prophet he will surely fail at the office for which he has no anointing. This is important because God may have given him to become a teacher.
All of us can have prophecy from God but not all of us are prophets, all saints are called to evangelize but not all of us are evangelist. We must walk in the office for which there is an anointing. Being in the proper position, and function in the right office in the body of Christ is absolutely necessary for a healthy body. Consider this, if our liver tried to the job of our brain we would all be blithering idiots because the liver has no ability to generate thought, nor control actions of our limbs or any of the things that the brain must do. Likewise the brain can not function as the liver because it can not filter toxins from our blood stream nor signal the pancreas to produce insulin so that we may assimilate the foods that we eat. If the brain tried to do the things of the liver we would quickly die from the poisons of our own body, or suffer from starvation even while eating three square meals a day.
Romans 12:6 (KJV) Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
Counterfeit Teaching on the Gifts of the Holy Spirit
Some teach that apostles and prophets don’t exist today, they say things, they even teach to the congregation that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and even the Office of the Apostle and Prophet died when the first apostles died. This is completely non Scriptural there is nowhere in the bible that says the gifts of the Holy Spirit or certain offices ended while other offices remained at the death of the original twelve or any other time for that matter. This is the doctrine of men not of God in Christ Jesus.
Likewise there is a powerful teaching that is counterfeit which has changes the Gift of the Holy Spirit. So that we would have no power, this is the work of Satan toward man to deceive you. If anyone tell you anything about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit, what they are, if they are still in working today, or anything which they can not back with scripture run away from them as fast as you can. The bible and the bible alone is the authority of the gifts and promises of God not what a person opinion says.(Deuteronomy 4:2).
On Free Will and Prophecy
Because God has given us free will prophecy can be inaccurate, or what is prophesized may not come to past because the prophet of God is only speaking God Will. We as creatures of free still have the ability to move out of God’s Will. This allow us to buffer harsh prophecy and fulfill prophecy which we love by our obedience to God. So we say that prophecy is God's will for a person's life or a local Body of Christ.
The Ways of receiving Prophecy
Sometimes the Holy Spirit reveals to the prophet what needs to be said at the instance it need to be said, there is no thought or premeditation of what God reveals to the prophet. this is one of the ways a prophet recieves prophecy from God
1 Corinthians 2:12 (KJV) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
A prophet may receive prophecy through visions, when this happens he or she may see what God has revealed even though others around see nothing.
1. Acts 9:10 (KJV) And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
2. Numbers 24:4 (KJV) He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
Through dreams and night visions a prophet may receive the word of God. Dreams are one of the ways God said he would reveal His Will to prophets. of all ways to recieve God will dreams are the most common way and is experienced at least once by almost every beliver.
1. Daniel 7:1-28
A prophet may also receive prophecy through angels. The act of seeing an angel manisfestation in flesh is called theophany. Almost every time there is a theophany in the bible prophey is given to the individual that experienced the theophany.
1. Revelation 1:1 (KJV) The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John
2. Acts 10:22 (KJV) And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
The Different Types of Prophets
Not all prophet receive God Will the same way, and because they receive differently that are often named or called by the way they recieve the Word of God
1. Some prophet receive their message from God through visions and dreams these prophets are called “Seers”
2. Some hear the voice of God speaking directly to them, they are called “Hearers”;
3. If a prophet receive God’s Will through the perception of their spirit these prophets are called “Sensors;”
4. And a very few prophets do not actually recieve God's Will but instead just know what it is God wants to reveal to his people that are called “Knowers”
`Different Ways a Prophet Disseminates Prophecy
Prophecy can be given in a number of ways two of which are the lower level prophecy (anyone may give prophecy this way) and the higher level of prophecy given only to those operating in the office of a prophet.
1. Lower level Prophecy
lower level prophecy is a way in which God gives prophecy to those not walking in the office of a prophet. However, someone who is walking in the office of a prophet may receive from God prophecy in this way as well. It is important to know
1. By simply speaking under the unction of the Holy Spirit God will give his world to whomever he desires for the edification of the local body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 14:4 (KJV) He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
2. Through prophesying in song or with music:
1 Chronicles 25:3 (KJV) Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD.
Ephesians 5:19 (KJV) Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
2. Higher Level Prophecy;
Higher level prophecy is prophecy which comes from a prophet that is walking in the office of a prophet. Because the office of prophet is an office that God alone can call one to, God speaks to him that walks in the office of prophet more freely and set him apart from others that prophesize.
Numbers 12:6-8 (NIV) …he said, "Listen to my words: "When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD…
1. Higher level prophecy may be expressed through acting out in parables this is exclusively done through the office of the Prophet.
1 Samuel 15:27-28 (KJV) And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent. And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.
Acts 21:10-11 (KJV) And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.
2. Higher level Prophecy may also be expressed by writing down the prophecy, this is almost exclusively give to congregations and always for the edification, exhortation and encouragement to the Body of Christ. In this way God give prophecy to the prophet in advance and the prophecy is held until God desires to have it delivered.
Please note that prophecy written in a book is not in any way an addition to scripture, nor is it to be considered for anyone except whom it was given to.
Revelation 1:11 (KJV) Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
Jeremiah 36:18 (KJV) Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

Word of Knowledge
Word of Knowledge 101
I guess I’m going to try to do the impossible, which is to address Word of Knowledge without addressing Word of Wisdom. Most of the time these two gifts of the Holy Spirit are address together. I think the reason for addressing them together is that they flow so well from one to another. In this article I will try to sever the flow at the point where Word of Knowledge ends, and Word of Wisdom begins.
So, have you ever solved a problem or gave a person right advice concerning their spiritual situation, and as you were answering them, thought to yourself “How in the world did I know that?” If so, it may very well have been the Holy Spirit working in you in the form of the spiritual gift of Word of Knowledge. Word of Knowledge is one of the less recognized of the spiritual gifts and unlike Prophecy, Word of Knowledge can sometimes be overlooked or confused with other spiritual Gifts.
For the Christian there is a real need, and even a requirement to be able to correctly discern all spiritual gifts, the Apostle Paul tells us that concerning spiritual gifts we should not be ignorant. (1Cor 12:1), Knowing not just spiritual but intellectually knowing the spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit is necessary for us to be able to identify, utilize, and grow into these gifts. Therefore, that we might not be ignorant concerning this spiritual gift, let us examine just what this gift Word of Knowledge really is.
I think it’s very important to understand it is called the Word of Knowledge, not gift of knowledge, which is because we are given only a fragment of the Knowledge of the Holy Spirit concerning a specific person or specific situation. Consider this, God is All Knowledge, not God has all knowledge, or God attains to all knowledge, God is all Knowledge. And through the works of the Spirit of God, God imparts a single Word of His Omniscience into us at a specific time for a specific person or a specific situation as He desires us to impart.
What is the Word of Knowledge?
The Word of Knowledge is knowledge received from the Holy Spirit to which we would not have otherwise any access to. This spiritual knowledge enables us to more effectively minister to the Body of Christ. When the Holy Spirit gives you His Word of Knowledge you are then able to know and understand the situations, circumstances, and strategies of the enemy or whoever may come up against the Body of Christ. You can then confidently speak on situations with knowledge, which can baffle, the enemy, make known the deceptions of the principalities and powers, as well as bring healing and understanding to those that have been targets of the enemy.
John Wimber defines Word of Knowledge as a supernatural revelation or fact about a specific person or situation, which is not learned through the efforts of the natural mind, but is a fragment of knowledge freely given by the Holy Spirit disclosing the truth which He wishes to be made known concerning a particular person or situation.
Word of Knowledge almost always deals with the present or past, however, in a very few cases it may express itself in the future tense. Key indicators that the Word of Knowledge is being imparted are words like “have been,” or “are going through,” or “in the past” Word of Knowledge will reveal a problem, or an attack of the enemy, however the knowledge of the attack may not always be enough to form a spiritual solution.
Tools of a Prophet
The revelation gifts, Word of Knowledge, and Word of Wisdom often operates in synergy with one another, with Word of Knowledge being the raw materiel and Word of Wisdom being the application of the raw material.
Even though Word of Knowledge and Word of Wisdom are revelation gifts, they by definition of their name are vocalized or spoken since the Greek word “logo” means spoken. The fact that these two revelation gifts are spoken can cause confusion to the hearer when trying to distinguish between prophecy and the synergy of Word of Knowledge and Word of Wisdom.
When Word of Knowledge and Word of Wisdom are correctly used by a true prophet, the imparting of these two revelation gifts flow from Word of Knowledge to Word of Wisdom in a seamless application as through they were prophecy. True Prophets (those living in the office of a prophet) often operated in at least two of the revelation Gifts while simultaneously operating in the Gift of Prophecy.
To better understand this lets imagine God puts a Word of Knowledge into your spirit (You know something about a specific person or specific situation you would not otherwise be able to know) in addition to that Word of Knowledge, God gives you instruction as to what you should do to correct the problem or avoid whatever attack the Word of Knowledge has warned you of. When these two gifts are verbalized it often appears to be prophecy and more often then not the Holy Spirit uses a prophet to impart this knowledge. So it may seem as though prophecy and the synergistic working of Word of Knowledge and Word of Wisdom are the same but they are not.
Run of the Mill Prophecy
Let’s get this clear prophecy is not simply the vocalizing of the revelation gifts. Absolutely not! Prophecy, by definition is for the edification, and exhortation, and comfort of the Body of Christ;(see blog Prophecy 101) while revelation gifts almost always are for the correcting of erred spirits (Acts 10:9-17), and the revealing of deceptions, lies (Acts 5:1-3 )and the hidden intents of principalities and powers that set themselves against Jesus and the Body of Christ. Furthermore Word of Knowledge is always specific never generalized, while prophecy can be at times generalized
Here are a few biblical examples of Word of Knowledge as appear in the bible
1. John 4:15-19 (Jesus to The Samaritan women at the well)
2. Matthew 16:13-1( Simon Peter’s Revelation knowledge of who Jesus really was [is])
3. Acts 5:1-3 (Simon Peter knowledge of the sin of Ananias and his wife)
4. Acts 9:10-18 ( Ananias conversion of Saul of Tarsus)
5. Acts 10:9-17 ( breaking the bigotry against the Gentiles)
6. Acts 22:17-21 ( Paul warned to leave Jerusalem)
7. 2 Kings 8:1-2 ( Elijah’s Warning of Famine)
8. 1 Samuel 9:15-27 (Calling of Saul)
So in conclusion we can say that Word of Knowledge is a spiritual gift given by the Holy Spirit. When working with Word of Wisdom it appears to be like prophecy, accept Word of knowledge is for the revealing of lies and deceptions that may attack the body of Christ, while Prophecy is for the exhortation, edification and comfort of the Body of Christ, while Word of Knowledge is a revelation gift that is verbalized ( spoken)

The Omniscience of God” (part 2 )
Spiritually Discerning Omniscience
Romans 11:33 (KJV) O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
When last we addressed the Omniscience of God (part 1) we dealt with two arguments that atheist and open theist contend are true of God. For the atheist with the goal of disproving the existence God is a fair stance, that is who they are and they are very upfront with their goal. However the stance taken by the open theist scares me in that to the casual observer they (open theist) appear to be true believers, and without a discerning eye can so easily be mistaken for true believers by a new convert. The open theist may not have the goal of humanizing God but their atheistic mindset unwittingly puts them on the same path of destruction.
Rather then act as an atheist or a theologian I’m going to do something very profound I’m going to act as a believer.
God Knowledge and Man’s knowledge
Francis Turretin. In his discussion of the doctrine of God knowledge writes;
Concerning the intellect of God and the disquisition of his knowledge, two things must be attended to above all others: the mode and the object. The mode consists in his knowing all things perfectly, undividedly, distinctly and immutably. It is thus distinguished from human and angelic knowledge: perfectly because he knows all things by himself or by his essence (not by forms abstracted from things--as is the case with creatures--both because these are only in time with the things themselves, but the knowledge of God is eternal, and because he can have no cause out of himself).[1]
I know he is a theologian but I’m moving from that point as quickly as I can. So what is the point here? Simple God does not perceive knowledge as we perceive. As I said in the previous blog that the atheist tries to humanize God by putting the limitations of man on God. Man perceives though his senses but there are limits to what we can perceive even in senses that work excellently.
Consider this two people can watch a sudden car accident at the same time, from the same vantage point but when asked the chronology of the event they will give you two different stories, one may even leave out or add something to the actual event. But God does not perceive things with his senses like man does; God’s perception is the Work of the Holy Spirit therefore it can have not limitations because it is God.
But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 1 Corinthians 2:10 (KJV)
Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Hebrews 4:13 (KJV)
For the man of God spiritual understanding of God’s knowledge brings us comfort, because we can spiritually discern the Omniscience of God. We don’t have to intellectually know God is Omniscience we can unlike the rest of the world let his Holy Spirit reveal to us his Omniscience. This becomes true when we began to act on the spiritual knowledge of His Omniscience, when we are in doubt we cry out “Search me, 0h God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23,24)
This is the Spiritual knowledge of God’s Omniscience that the world can’t comprehend. We discern the infinite knowledge of God which fills us and unctions us to exalt His heavenly name. Way above even the wisest man is the simplest knowledge of God, as the heavens are above the earth so is the knowledge of God above man.
We wrestle with what even this day may bring for us, but all futurity is open to His omniscient gaze. The infinite knowledge of God fills the man or women of God with holy awe. Nothing we can do, nothing we can say not even anything that we can think, escapes the cognizance of God The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. Proverbs 15:3 (KJV) And because we know in the depths of our spirit that our every action is naked before the omniscient God we are fearful in his presence, rejoicing with trembling. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Psalms 2:11 (KJV)
This is a knowledge that the carnal mind of this world can not comprehend so we waste our time when we try to give them that understanding. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Romans 8:7 (KJV) But because we are not of this world, God has given us these secret understandings. The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant. Psalms 25:14 (KJV)
O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor? Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto him again? For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Romans 11:33-36 (KJV)

The Indwelling of Omnipresence
God's Omniprensence in Us
When we think of Omnipresence we think as God being everywhere this was addressed earlier in the “Everywhere of Omnipresence” or as God incarnating God’s self for man to interact with, this was addressed in the “Theophany of Omnipresence” but there is another form of omnipresence that I think should be cleared up. And it is even more complicated than all the rest and of all the Attributes of God this is the one that we have power over.
This being the incarnation of God which is beyond the physical to the spiritual, it lives in us, and speaks to us, and through us, it exists to comfort us, and guide us into full maturation in the works of God. This incarnation is called the Holy Spirit (Ruah HaKodesh; Hebrew) (Pneuma Hagios; Greek) it is given to the believer of Christ as a promise from Jesus Christ. And because every man, woman, and child that walks on this earth has within him the free will to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior, none is excluded from the possibility of having the Holy Spirit dwelling in him; this is the Indwelling of Omnipresence.
Now with the Holy Spirit indwelling in us our body becomes as Paul says in a temple where God
dwells.
“What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you,” 1 Corinthian 6:19
Pay attention to the way this is written, the apostle Paul did not say that if you have received the Holy Spirit, then your body is a temple where God dwells. What he was trying to do was draw to the attention of the Church of Corinth that because they have accepted Jesus Christ as their savior, their bodies are a temple.
Now this becomes wholly important in our understanding that the Holy Spirit is not an option in the life of the believer, but rather (help me Holy Spirit) without the Holy Spirit dwelling in you there is no salvation! This is important because we are told that all we have to do is say that we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and we are saved, but this is far from the truth. I will write on the deeper understanding of parable of the sower in another blog. You can agree with me on that last statement about salvation or not.
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. Romans 8:8-9 (KJV)
Let me break down these two verses written by the Apostle Paul. The Apostle says that "those of the flesh can not please God, but you (he was speaking to the Church of Corinth ) are not of the flesh but of the spirit." Now pay close attention to these next two words. Paul writes “if so” if you truly are of the spirit, "be that the Spirit of God dwell in you." That was a statement of confidence, not a question. What the Apostle was saying is that, if so you are truly living your life after God then I am confident that the Spirit of God dwells in you. This is important because Paul understood that even then there were phony Christians among the Church of Corinth , just as it will be in your church.
Now the next line seals the deal the apostle writes "If any man have not the spirit of Christ he is none of his." Now who are those that belong to Christ, those that have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal savior, not just with their lips but also with their hearts? Because anyone can say “I accept Jesus Christ as my savior” and not have the contrite heart and they are not saved!
False Converts
In second Timothy 4:10 The apostle Paul writes “For Demas hath forsaken me having loved this present world.” You see Demas had accepted Christ as a savior with his lips but the desires of the
flesh (they that are of flesh can not please God) he esteemed greater than the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. In John 6:70 Jesus in speaking of Judas reply “One of you is a devil” You see Judas had promised to follow Christ but the desires of his flesh (lucre) was greater than his salvation. I’ve
heard people say that Judas could not go to heaven because he hung himself. Let’s be real now Judas won’t get to heaven because he is a devil! Christ words not mine.
So both Demas and Judas did profess a Love for Christ but the Spirit of God never dwelled in them because they never accepted Christ with their hearts. Time after time the bible makes it clear that salvation is a product of the heart but we as Christian teach that it is a product of our lips, even though we see two biblical examples of false converts those that had professed a love for Christ with their lips, but whose heart was still desiring the things of this world
* The bible says that God saves those of contrite spirit (broken hearted) Psalm 34:18;
* God will not despise a contrite heart Psalm 51:17; ·
* I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit Isaiah 57:15
So this incarnation of God is different in that God indwells in our very heart. This incarnation of God is not external to us but is the very spirit that guides us in righteousness, by giving us perfect interpretation of God’s word in the way that is specific to the individual person.
And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Acts 2:7-8 (KJV)
Now of all the Attributes of God, only the Indwelling Omnipresence do we have power by our action to defile. So be it drugs, homosexuality, adultery, fornication, effeminate, overeating, smoking, or excessive drinking, anything in which the body is directly affected we dishonor God by submitting to the lust of flesh. More importantly we defile the Holy Temple of God and place ourselves under a curse of destruction.
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God , and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God , him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 (KJV)

The Theophany of Omnipresence
Psalms 139:8 (KJV) If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
The above verse is an expression of the omnipresence of God. It addresses God being everywhere at the same time. This is the first thing that comes into the average person’s mind when we think of God’s Omnipresence and the very thing addressed in the last blog Omnipresent God .
In the next two blogs on omnipresence we will address The Theophany of Omnipresence, and the Indwelling of Omnipresence. Today we address the Theophany of God’s Omnipresence, and there is no better place to start than to ask the question what is a theophany? A theophany is an appearance of God by man. In the Hebre Text (Old Testament) God appears as an angel of the Lord, in physical form, in visions and dreams and as a burning bush.
Exodus 33:20 (KJV) And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.
John 1:18 (KJV) No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
Is this a contradiction of the bible? If Moses or Abraham has seen God than John 1:18 contradicts what is written in the old testament about these theophanies. So is the bible wrong or am I wrong in my thinking? For those that desire to have no truth there is a contradiction, but for those desire to a deeper meaning read on because the bible has wonderful harmony in its scripture.
The Trinity
Let’s work with what we know about God; though it may be limited it is the only thing we can work with at this time. God is a Triune God, meaning that we recognize God as God the Fathe
r, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, and in that recognition each God is a perfect and complete God but there is not three Gods only One. Therefore our prayer is towards only one God, which is three persons in one; this is what we call the Trinity.
Now God the Father is Spirit, and God the Son is Spirit, and The Holy Spirit is Spirit, and each God are One. Therefore being One, that which is true of God the Father, must be true of God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, and likewise anything which true of the God, but be true of God in all His Persons.
Now armed with this knowledge of the Trinity let us look at the first chapter of the book of John for clarification, and understanding of this problem of theophany.
John 1:1 (KJV) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:3 (KJV) All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:14 (KJV) And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
1 Timothy 3:16 (KJV) And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
In John 1:1 we see that the Word was with God since from the beginning. John 1:3 tells us that even everything that was created was created by “God the Word” and that nothing that was created, was created except by Him (The Word). In John 1:14 we see “the Word” was made flesh. And since John 1:18 says no man has ever seen the father, we can only deduce that any previous theophany of God was of the pre-incarnated Son.
Why the pre-incarnated Son? Because one of the Attributes of God is His Immutability and that means God never changes, since God never changes we can say that even from the beginning that God the Son was both Flesh and Spirit. In john 8:56 Jesus acclaims his Eternalness which reflect this immutability with a simple statement.
John 8:58 (KJV) Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
Since God the Son has always been both all man, and all God, both flesh and spirit therefore any incarnation of God seen by Abraham or Moses was in fact the pre-incarnated Jesus Christ.
A very enlightening verse concerning this theophany of Christ or in this case pre-incarnated Christ is found in
Amos 4:10-11 (KJV) 10 I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto Me, saith the LORD.
11I have overthrown some of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto Me, saith the LORD.
In verse 10 we have very common interpretation of His Act as they are spoken By the Lord “I have” done this, or that or the other, and verse 10 ends with saith the Lord (Lord, being Jehovah, or Yahweh, or YHWH by Strong’s concordance # H3068) However verse 11 gives us a very unique twist, it starts off in the first person “I” but moves to the 3rd person “God” which would lead us to believe that God is speaking of another personage of the Trinity, in fact this is as though one personage of God was taking credit for some acts and giving credit for other actions to another personage of the Trinity. With this is mine we can see how both Exodus 33:20 and John 1:18 can be correct and not contradict the other.
