Train up a child

Train up a child

In a world where our children are being killed, at an enormous rate, the possibility of reaching adulthood for urban children (especially boys) becomes more and more difficult each day. Children are disrespecting their parents, joining gang, doing drugs, experimenting with homosexual relationships, and ever kind of perversion you can imagine. Grandparents are the parents of the 2K era, not only raising their children, but now raising their children’s children. God has been taken out of the schools and out of the courts and for many Americans, God has been taken out of the living rooms and from the dinner tables as well. Is there any wonder that our children have been given up to a reprobate society.

But no loving parent wants to see his or her child die, and nothing is more tragic than to have a parent bury his own child. Nothing except when a parent has to bury his own child and know within his heart that his child has not been saved, that his child will burn eternally in hell, because his child had never known Jesus. For this reason it is of the utmost importance that we teach our children about Christ, and help them to develop a relationship with Him so that in time of trouble they will be properly equipped with the spiritual things needed to battle this corrupt world.

The bible teaches that we should “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he gets old he will not depart from it” The only question that remains is how do I train up a child? should we read child rearing books by Dr Spock, or some other deep thinker? Or should we take the advice of our friends whom had all their children go to college? Maybe we should just medicate our children to the point that they walk in a state of semiconscious stupor, that’ll teach them to act right! Let’s see what the bible says about this subject.

Deuteronomy 6:1-7 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

In short it says to teach your children the law of God, not that we are justified by the law but that by the law (Ten Commandments) we show our children in simple terms what sin is. Now pay attention to God’s promise when you teach the law to your children verse 2 says that their days may be prolonged! This is the simplicity that is in God’s Word.

Now verse 3 says “observe the law and do it “(here is the promise again) and all will be with well with you, and you will prosper in the land of milk and honey as God has promised. What is important to understand is that of all the promises made to Israel, it is the observing of the law which initiates these promises in their life. Likewise of all the inherited promises to the Christian nothing is it true if we don’t follow the law of God. I know we are taught we as Christian are not under the law and this is true, but if a Christian breaks the law he does so as a sinner and the law was made for the sinner. Can a Christian be a sinner also? Is not a sinner one who sins? Don’t even Christians occasionally fall into sin? But it is the law which convicts the non-repentant sinner and faith in Christ Jesus, which acquits us of our sin.

So God Commands Israel that they teach the law to their children because it is in having a knowledge of the moral law of God (summed up in the 10 Commandments) that gives not just our children but even adults a foundation of what sin is and the realization that without Christ we will never have salvation.

Galatians 3:24 Therefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

It is in teaching the moral law that we show our children what sin 1 John 3:4 tell us “sin is transgression of the law”, and Paul teaches in Romans 7:7 “I would not have known sin, if not by the law”So we have established that what we train our children is in the knowledge of sin through the law. let go back to Deuteronomy 6 to see how we train up our children.

Deuteronomy 6:8-9 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
That is that you should forever have the commandment in front of your children, Not just that you read them occasionally but that they become a tool to teach them all they need to know in life. This is of utmost importance, also that you not just force them on them but have them express to you their understanding of them in daily life.

When a child lies saying thing like “You know its wrong to lie don’t you? (wait for their answer) tell me why you should not lie. Their answer should not be founded in you but in God. by this I mean if their answer is because you will spank me, it may be true but that’s not enough, guide them with patience to see that what they did is a transgression of God law not just mommy and daddy’s rules. Read here how the message bible explains the next two verses of Deuteronomy 6

Deuteronomy 6:8-9 (The Message) Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.

I hope this helps, I know it may seem too easy, and even as if I had move the complicated task of rearing a child to a few lines in the bible, but the bible says we should not through the hidden things of this world even as Eve was by the serpent, be lead astray from the simplicity that is in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 11:3)

[1] Romans 3:20 (Amplified Bible) for no person will be justified (made righteous, acquitted, and judged acceptable) in His (God’s) sight by observing the works prescribed by the Law. For [the real function of] the Law is to make men recognize and be conscious of sin []not mere perception, but an acquaintance with sin which works toward repentance, faith, and holy character]

Fixing the Broken Wheel of Flawed Teaching

Fixing the Broken Wheel of Flawed Teaching

What do you do when you come to a place where something that you have always been taught about God may not be in line with what God revealed of Himself in the bible? What do you do when God has opened your eyes to see that what was a regular part of how your practice or was taught to practice your faith may not be biblically correct?

I not talking about a falling away of your faith, you still love God and you still have a made up mind to live your life for Jesus, but it is that very love for God, that very made up mind that brought you into the realization that this something is really wrong with the way something (it can be anything) is being taught in your local church.

You are proberly that type of person that is naturally antagonistic, you may be that person that always have to ask why. You fish through scripture after church to make sure what was preached was biblically sound, and even have the guts to say something under your breath, "that just don't seem right to me"

No one else seems to really care that's its not right so maybe it just you being you same old trouble making self, or maybe your are right and God forbid the whole church is wrong. So you are being torn between what is being practiced or taught at church and what you are reading in the bible.

The first time this happened to me was when I came to the realization that the way we witness to the lost is not only biblical incorrect, it may have been producing more false Christians, (those that think they are saved and are not.) than it was real ones.

Now my desire is not to sound like a Ray Comfort mini-me but I’ve seen the type of Christian that is produced from both the modern day way we witness and witnessing using the law. And if my desire is truly build God’s kingdom than I’ve got to stop worrying about how many people I get to mimic a pre-orchestrated prayer, and start working to develop those that would worship God in Spirit and Truth.

But with that being said, the question is what do you do when you know that something your church is teaching does not produce God fearing people? Do you leave and go to another church in hopes that they might get it right? Do you try to bring to the understanding of the heads of the church the error of their ways? Or do you just sit and do nothing; even though you know what you are doing is wrong? How do you fix that broken wheel of a flawed practice in your local body and how many casualties will it have to the faith?

I welcome any input

Why Do You Pray?

Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

I went to prayer meeting, and tonight just like every other night it finished with our pastor imploring to pray! "Men ought always to pray, and not to faint," he would say as we walked out of the door. For me prayer has never been a task, I enjoy praying, for my family, my friends and even for those that my not like me as much as I love them, but this is not true of everyone.

There are a number of reasons people pray, some out of obedience, some out of love, others out of faith, or fear, and then there are those that pray out of hopelessness. We all know that prayer develops in us a connection with God but on a personal level why do you pray, what does prayer mean to you? Why do you think we should always and not faint?

Why Righteousness?

Please Comment
This blog is an answer to a friends blog who was asked the question "Why do I need to be righteousness?"

There is a major problem with the taught gospel today, we see God as a servant to us, rather than our required servitude to Him. Pay attention to the names of God used in most Churches, Jehovah - Jireh – (The Lord will provide [for me]), Jehovah - Rophe (The Lord Heals [me]), Jehovah Nissi (The Lord Is My Banner), and Jehovah-Shalom –( the Lord [our] Peace). All of these names have to do with what God can do for us. Now when you combine this with the accepted witnessing principles, that Jesus love you, and if you come to Him He will heal your sickness, addiction, marriage problems or finances you can see how this feel good, all about what I can get out of the relationship mindset that the world and many Christians have about God.
The problem is we don’t tell them about the full council of God’s Salvation. We must give them God’s word not the Gospel, Gonna say that again, we must give them God’s word not the Gospel Matthew 7:6 tell us "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs”. And what is sacred, what your pearls are is the Gospel.
If we tell people Jesus will bring happiness, then our witnessing becomes an issue of quality of life and the fact is that there are many people who are going to hell and are perfectly happy with their present way of life. The modern gospel end result is to get them recite this sinners prayer, which is totally unbiblical. Did Jesus or Paul or any of the Apostles cause a person to recite a sinner’s prayer? If a person could be saved by saying a sinners prayer than Ephesians 2:9 which says “Not of works, lest any man should boast” is a lie.
However if we show them using God’s word that they are in transgression of God’s law and God is just in punishing them with eternal death to burn in hell, then we can bring them to a biblical state of repentance, and teach them the value of righteousness.
The bible tell us that God law, not our life, not what God has done for me, but God’s law is perfect in converting the soul (psalm 19:7) So we must give the law to show them they are in sin. I know you will say but they already know they are in sin and they ok with it. So you think, Paul says in Romans 7:7 “I would not have known sin, but by the law; for I would not have know lust except the law said thou shall not covet.”
I was shocked when I found that most people do not know they are in sin, or they have devalued their sin to such a level that it means nothing to them, they say words like “little white lie” or “everyone is doing it” But we have a God that sees even one lie as a liar, taking a pen from work as a thief, looking a women with lust as adultery, and being angry with a men for no reason as murder. No one that does not think they are in biblical sin will ever have a reason for repentance. The punishment is great, and we must bring to the sinners attention that they are in sin. Take away quality of living when we speak to them and let them know the reason for righteousness is without it you go to hell!

When We can't See God’s Work at Hand.

When the king of Edom, and the king of Moab, and the king of Ammon, and the king of Tyre, and the king of Sidon, and Josiah king of Judah were taken into subjugation under Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon many prophets falsely prophesied the quick restoration and the return of those in exile. But the prophet Jeremiah with a Yoke of wood he wore on his own neck until the prophet Hanniah throw it to the ground and broke it, did not receive this prophecy from God

So God spoke to Jeremiah and said that the yoke that Hanniah broke was of wood, but God had put a yoke of iron around the nations and had given Nebuchadnezzer dominion over all they had, even the beast of the field.

So Jeremiah wrote a letter to those in exile rebuking the false prophecy of the other prophets, and reminding those in exile that even in times of difficulty, God still had a better plan for them. Rather then complain because of their situation, Jeremiah suggested that they should strengthen themselves, in the present, that they may be fully able at the appointed time of God’s deliverance.

  • Jeremiah 29:11-14 (KJV) For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

Sometimes we feel that God has left us all alone that he has forgotten us or may not know the severity of our problem. But God want us to know that even when we can only see the evil, He has plans for our good. And when we get serious about finding God and want to be in his presence more than life itself. He will hear our prayers and will not forsake us.

Here is my prayer for such an occasion as this.

My Heavenly Father, in Jesus' Name I come to You in Prayer. Oh God sometimes I get confused Heavenly Father, when I’ve done everything I can and trouble and calamity still follows me. Father you said you will make me the head and not the tail in every situation, but sometimes it just don’t seem that way. Your Word says You’ll never leave me, and that Your Spirit dwells in me, but oh Jehovah Shammah, sometimes I feel all alone.

It’s hard dear God, leaning on You when all my life I have had to do things on my own, make my own way, be my own man. But calamity is all about me; and I just can’t fix what’s broken in my life, I’ve got to depend on You, and You alone to bring me out of my exile, to restore all the vessels that the King of Babylon has taken from me.

Help me God to be strong because I just can’t do this by myself. Father, if you don’t save me, I can’t be saved, if you don’t deliver me, I will not be delivered. If You don’t stretch forth Your Omnipotent hand and snatch me from the grasp of the enemies of this world. They will surely devour me like a roaring lion.

So with a sorrowful and contrite heart I call on You in prayer, hearken Your ear to my supplications; and save me; make the evil which was intended for me to be as a blessing, and let my trials and tribulations, be testimony of Your Glory

In Jesus’ Name I pray Amen

Your Brother in Christ.

Appearance of Evil

Appearance of Evil

In 1st Thessalonians Paul gives some very sound advice on how to walk daily as a Christian. We often forget these very sound precepts and assume that we can attain to a standard of Christianity on our own. In verse 16 though 22 the Apostle gives a seven step process whose simplicity has outlasted anything man has up to this point thought of.

If we follow these steps there will be no condemnation in those that are in Christ, from the world be they in church or on the street. Today we will address only the last one found in verse 22 “Abstain from all appearances of evil”

1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 Rejoice evermore. 17 Pray without ceasing. 18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil.

When we consider this verse we must realize that Paul is not asking us to abstain from evil but even the appearance of evil. Not just that which is wrong but that which seem wrong in the eyes of others! As ambassadors of God that which we do that even appears wrong in the eyes of a non-believer, be it wrong or not it defiles God’s Name. this is why Samuel said to King David after his issue with Bathsheba “You have caused the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme his name” (2 Sam12:14)

Just because a thing does not appear to be wrong, in any way, and does not break any law, does not make it acceptable for God’s Ambassadors. It can still be improper for men and women of God because it is inconsistent with the respectability (Higher Standard in God) that we must attain to as Sons and Daughters of the Almighty God.

When we do not carry ourselves in a way that correctly represent God or put into question our love for God, we are putting God’s Name in judgment of the world, we have through our action allowed others to blasphemy the Name of God we have through our behaviors blasphemed the Name of God ourselves

This is why Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. If our actions, or our behaviors, or if we find ourselves in places, or situations and conditions were our Christianity is questioned; if we are not doing what will openly edify God’s Glory then we are not avoiding the appearance of evil.

Now because men (people) can not see our motives, what our intentions are is of very little importance, it makes little difference if we are motivated by Godly intentions, if what we do appears to be wrong in the eyes of the world; we have blasphemed God’s Name.

It is always safe to lean to the side of virtue, therefore we don’t get so caught up on the action being right or wrong the virtue of the action should cause us to abstain, and the desire to rightly represent God reframe from any indulgence.

Because we represent God, when there is a possibility of misinterpretation of our motives, or actions we are presenting a defiled picture of God. God requires us to aim at living our life Holy, to be different form the rest of the world. Therefore how we conduct ourselves, where we find ourselves, whom we associated with will do more to bring a true believer to God then all the witnessing in the world when they do not see you living the life you are witnessing
